柿沼忍昭プロフィール
(僧侶、料理研究家、禅アーチスト)

1956年神奈川県生まれの湘南ボーイ。20歳で出家、インドを放浪する。卒論のテーマが「ビート禅」だった。1950年代アメリカビートジェネレーション禅作家、ジャックケロアックとその代表作“ダルマバムス”に魅せられ、サンフランシスコを訪ねる。ヒッピーとの出会いなどから、形にとらわれない禅の道を歩き出した。この時サンフランシスコ禅センターに立ち寄った。のち曹洞宗本山のひとつである永平寺で一年間修行、精進料理を学ぶ。のちに北海道で虹奄(こうあん)を開く。アメリカンインディアンの教えにも禅があると感じ、自らスエットロッジの儀式を友人と行い、その中で地蔵の絵を描く許しを乞う。処女作品は自らの中にも存在しているという地蔵のDNA。地蔵=クシデバルガ=ガイヤ=大地の子宮というつながりのなかで、自分も全ての人も地蔵の要素を持っていると悟る。近年“地蔵菌”なるものを発見。日本では、15以上の個展と、料理教室、ユーモアあふれたトークで講演をし、人々を“地蔵菌”に感染させながら禅の教えを説く。2003年11月には、20年ぶりのサンフランシスコ禅センターで、アートショー“地蔵展”を開催。“あるがまま”(Be Just Be)をスローガンにアメリカにも“地蔵菌”をばらまきはじめ、ますます活動範囲を広げながらも悪戦求道中。




Ninsho Kakinuma
(Zen priest, Chef, Zen artist)

Born in 1956 in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan. Started Zen training at the age of 20 and been to India. “Zen Beat: was his college thesis paper. After reading “Dharma Bums” by Jack Kerouac, visited San Francisco to see the birthplace of 50’s beat generation movement. Realizing the philosophy of Zen in the beat generation movement through encounter with hippy culture, started a search for non-orthodox “Buddha Way.” After visiting San Francisco Zen Center, began his training at Eiheiji temple (one of the two main temples of Soto Zen in Japan) for one year. Out of six months, served as Tenzo - a head chef – who was in charge of three meals a day for over two hundred training monks. After finishing his training, opened his own temple, Koan - a rainbow lodge - in Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. Recognized the same beliefs of Zen teachings in Native American culture, performed sweat lodge to seek permission to draw pictures of "Jizo” (Kshitibarbha, “womb of the earth” - a bodhisattva who is a savior from the torments of the hell and helper of deceased children.) The very first painting was Jizo DNA, which, according to Ninsho, everybody posses. The Latest discovery is “Jizo bacteria.” Through over 20 art exhibitions, Shojin (monastery style) cooking demonstrations and lectures in Japan, infecting people with "Jizo bacteria" and spreading the teaching of Buddha. After twenty years from his first visit to San Francisco Zen Center, "Jizo Exhibition" was held at its gallery in November of 2003. On May 20, 2004, held one day print show at Tinhorn Press Gallery in San Francisco.
